The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State Executive Committee and appointed a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs pending the emergence of a new substantive leadership.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman (North-West), Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, announced the decision on Monday during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
She explained that the action was taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act, saying the National Working Committee (NWC) acted to preserve the party’s unity and ensure uninterrupted administration in Kano State.
According to her, the move was necessitated by a leadership vacuum that threatened the smooth running of the party’s affairs in the state.
“This important action is not out of preference, but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the Constitution of our party, the Electoral Act, and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State,” she said.
She noted that the party’s constitution provides clear procedures for restoring stability whenever internal challenges disrupt its organisational structure.
“When circumstances create a leadership vacuum within any political organisation, responsible leadership cannot fold its arms and watch uncertainty consume the institution. A political party is built on order, discipline and continuity. Without those pillars, confusion replaces organisation, and uncertainty replaces confidence,” she stated.
She, however, stressed that the appointment of the caretaker committee should not be seen as a reflection on the dedication or loyalty of existing party members.
“The constitution of a Caretaker Committee must never be interpreted as a judgment on the commitment, loyalty or contributions of the thousands of faithful members of our party across Kano State. Far from it. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party,” she explained.
Naja’atu announced that the caretaker committee would be headed by Alhaji Umar Bala as chairman, while Isma’il Musa would serve as secretary until a new state executive is elected.
