The Adamawa State Government has cancelled the December 31 “Cross Over Night” activities for the Unity Flyover in Jimeta, Yola, the state capital.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, stated this on Wednesday, adding that the cancellation was as a result of security concerns.
He said further updates would be provided as necessary, adding that “the government will continue to work with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state.”
The government also urged citizens, particularly residents of Yola North and South Local Government Areas, to be vigilant and avoid crowded areas.
He said “avoid any potential risks and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.”
Similarly, the Lagos State Government has cancelled the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta scheduled for December 31.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, said his principal ordered that in place of the annual Greater Lagos Fiesta—also known as the Countdown to 2026—residents should “spend quality time in personal prayers for the nation, the state and the people of Lagos.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu appealed to Lagosians to pray for “our continued prosperity, leadership, peace, productivity and our general well-being.”
He wished residents well as the year draws to a close, and expressed optimism about the year ahead, wishing all Lagosians “a happy and prosperous year 2026,” and noting that the coming year “shows great promise for the state and Nigeria.”
The governor also enjoined residents “to continue to live in peace and harmony.”
