Former Military Head of State retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, describing him as a “towering figure in Islamic scholarship.”
Abubakar said the deceased had contributed positively to the promotion of religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians.
Abubakar, who offered prayers for the repose of the scholar’s soul also acknowledged his lasting impact on Muslim Ummah.
According to him, the nation joins the family, followers and the broader Muslim community in praying for the forgiveness and eternal repose of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
“May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and comfort his loved ones,” he added.
Also, Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger State has described the death of the renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader of the Tijjaniya group, Sheikh Usman Dahiru Bauchi as a huge loss.
Bago’s spokesperson, Bologi Ibrahim, Thursday in Minna, quoted his principal as extending deepest condolences to the Government and people of Bauchi State, the family of the late cleric, and members of the Tijjaniya group.
He said the death of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a great loss not only to the Tijjaniya movement but to the entire Muslim Ummah in the world.
Bago acknowledged Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s life long contributions to the propagation of Islam through scholarships, spiritual guidance and Islamic teachings.
He prayed to Allah to grant the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Aljanna Firdausi and give his family, the Tijjaniya group and the entire Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear the loss.
The renowned Islamic Scholar died at the age of 98 in the early hours of Thursdat at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
His son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi announced the death of his father, saying “Sheikh has returned to his creator. “It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah. Allah has done everything to us for sparing the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah.”
Sheikh Bauchi was born in 1927 in Gombe, devoted more than seven decades to Islamic propagation, education and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.
He was a recipient of the national honour of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and was widely respected for his teachings on moral discipline, tolerance and unity.
The deceased left behind 61 children, numerous grandchildren and great‑grandchildren.
