Alhaji Muhammad Abacha, son of former military leader, Sani Abacha has emerged governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general election in Kano State.
In Gombe state, Alhaji Jibrin Barde has also emerged the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state after polling 160.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abacha polled 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who scored 710 votes in the primary election on Wednesday in Kano state.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Hajiya Amina Garba, declared Abacha as the winner of the primaries having scored 736 votes.
The Chairman the Electoral Committee, Alhaji Mohammed Jamu, said the primaries were legally conducted with validly-elected delegates and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, police and State Security Service operatives.
Also, a parallel primary was held at the Sani Abacha Youth Center, apart from the primary that produced Mohammad Abacha at the party secretariat.
Those contesting at the parallel primary are , Muaz Magaji, Ibrahim Ali-Amin, Sadiq Wali, Mustapha Getso, Yusuf Dambatta and Yunusa Dangwani.
Alhaji Barde had polled 160 votes to defeat five other aspirants in the primary election held on Wednesday in Gombe.
Announcing the results, Mike Oghiadomhe, the PDP Returning Officer for the PDP governship primaries in the state, declared Jamil Gwamna scored 119 votes, Dr Ali Gombe got 17 votes, Adamu Suleiman 18 votes, Gimba Ya’u 1 votes and Babayo Ardo scored 13 votes.
He said that the total votes cast in the election was 328.
Oghiadomhe commended security personnel, journalists, contestants and party executives for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
