Owner of micro-blogging social media app, X, Elon Musk, has said new users confirmed plans to charge new users to post on the platform.
In a response to a post about the X policy on new accounts, he said it is the only solution to curb the issue of bots on the platform.
He noted that the proliferation of fake accounts occupies the available space for usernames, leading to the unavailability of many good handles.
“Unfortunately, a small fee for new user write access is the only way to curb the relentless onslaught of bots. Current AI (and troll farms) can pass “are you a bot” with ease. The onslaught of fake accounts also uses up the available namespace, so many good handles are taken as a result,” Musk said.
He, however, said new users will be able to post for free after three months.
