About 1,000 residents have been rendered homeless by rainstorm in Iyara community, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rainstorm occurred on Monday, according to locals, who said many affected families are now seeking refuge with neighbours, relatives, or friends.
The paramount ruler of Iyara, Oba Jacob Meduteni, said a significant number of people are now homeless due to the storm.
Mediteni called on well to do individuals and organisations to help the victims during this difficult time.
The National President of the Iyara Development Association (IDA), Alhaji Aliyu Badaki, said over 1000 individuals were affected.
He said the destruction was substantial, especially given the economic challenges facing the country, making it difficult for the victims to recover on their own.
One of the victims, Adebayo Bamisaiye, has called for help from public spirited individuals and Government, saying such a severe storm had not occurred in the community for many years.
“The cost of rebuilding is daunting, considering the current economic situation in the country, making it challenging for many to rebuild their homes anytime soon,” he said.
