The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been ordered to be kept in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday remanded gave the order after it took his plea over alleged abuse of office and allocation of $4.5bn and N2.8bn.
Emefiele, had been earlier arraigned with his co-defendant, one Henry Isioma Omole, on fresh 26 counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi
He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The charge was marked ID/23787c/2024 and dated April 3, 2024.
A. Labo-Lawal, who stands in for Emefiele, however, pleaded with the court to grant hom bail in recognition and allow him to continue with the bail earlier granted him by the Abuja court.
Lawal pleaded with the court to grant the second defendant bail earlier granted him by Justice O – Sule-Hamzat.
The prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), did not oppose the bail applications.
But Justice Oshodi, after listening to the submissions of both counsel, ordered the remand of Emefiele to EFCC custody and the second defendant to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
He thereafter adjourned the case till April 11, for ruling on the bail and commencement of trial.
