The seven-man panel investigating the allegation of gross misconduct levelled against the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, on Thursday fixed Friday, April 5, 2024, for final adjournment for the deputy governor to defend himself.
The panel set up by the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, took the decision at it resumed its sitting on Thursday
Shaibu and his counsel were absent.
The chairman of the panel, Justice S. A Omonuwa (retd.), said the panel was awaiting the defendant to open his defence and thereafter called for the defendant.
But Sahib who was absent was also not represented.
With this, Justice Omonuwa called for an appearance for the plaintiff, the Edo State House of Assembly, which initiated the impeachment process.
The Legal Officer, Edo State House of Assembly, N.U. Ibrahim, who represented the Assembly with two others, appeared.
Omonuwa said the panel would still adjourn to give Shaibu the opportunity to appear before it to present his defence.
“The panel is adjourned for the last time to April 5, 2024 at 12 noon, to allow the defendant to present his defence,” Justice Omonuwa stated
