The Kaduna State Government said the scourge of banditry has affected 551 communities spread across 12 local government areas, resulting in the displacement of 289,375 people within the state.
During the commencement of palliative distribution in Maraban Kajuru, Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), highlighted the human toll behind these figures, emphasizing that they represent lives, aspirations, and the resilience of the affected communities.
Dr. Mazadu provided further insight into the extent of the crisis, citing examples such as Chikun, where 134 communities and 26,345 individuals were affected, and Birnin Gwari, with 84 communities and 70,893 displaced persons, among others spanning the 12 local governments.
Dr. Mazadu acknowledged the urgent need for support by commending the Governor for allocating funds towards a N11.4 billion palliative program aimed at assisting the affected population, extending gratitude for his proactive response.
He further announced the plan to extend the relief distribution to all affected communities within the identified 12 local governments in the coming weeks.
Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, represented by her Chief of Staff, Barrister James Kanyip, assured the public of the government’s steadfast commitment to addressing the insecurity crisis and providing aid to those impacted by banditry.
