Anti-riot policemen took over the All Progress Congress (APC) secretariat in Makurdi, capital of Benue State on Friday.
The police, including men of the Civil Defence Corps and Livestock Guards, arrived the secretariat as early as 7 am, and took over the gates, preventing access into the secretariat.
They used their operational vehicles to block all roads leading to the secretariat.
The takeover has also stopped the meeting of the party’s State Executive Council Meeting SEC) and APC stakeholders under Comrade Austin Agada.
State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina wrote to Agada, saying “The State Executive Council meeting and all kinds of political meetings be suspended till further notice.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Samuel Gimba signed the letter, which also said the SEC meeting must be suspended based on a directive from Governor Hyacinth Alia suspending all forms of political meetings and gatherings in the state.
The decision, according to police, is due to the volatile security atmosphere in the state.\
