Police in Sokoto State have killed one bandit and arrested 14 others in the state.
Among the suspects was a community health officer who had been treating bandits who sustained gunshot injuries during their operation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Kaigama told newsmen on Thursday that the police while foiling a kidnapping attempt at Gigani village in Gwadabawa Local government area around 4pm on Wednesday killed one of the bandits and recovered GPMG Rifle with six Live Ammunition attached to it’s chain.
He said eight suspected bandits were apprehended along Bodinga road while on their way to Tambuwal on a mission.
The suspects were Abdullahi Ali, 50 years of Gwagabawa local government area,; Aliyu Mohammed 35yrs of Achida in Wurno local government area,
Abdullahi Umar 63yrs who is also from Achida town in Wurno local government and Aliyu Abdullahi 28yrs ‘of Hammali town in Kware.
The others include Muhammad Anas, 30yrs ‘ of Shuni Dange-Shuni local government, Muhammad Bello 50yrs of Dingyadi town in Bodinga local government area and Jamilu B. Yusuf (AKA Doctor) 35yrs of Badon Hanya in Sokoto metropolis who is a health worker that attended to their injured members.
However, Nasiru Ibrahim (AKA Baban Sisi) 27yrs of Kware local government area and Sani Aliyu 45yrs of Kandama, Wurno local government area used to be their alleged drivers when going out for their criminal activities.
Kaigama said three Ak47 Rifles with 116 Rounds of Live Ammunition were recovered from them.
Similarly, four suspected kidnappers were arrested after N30 million to release three captives.
Additionally, one Muhammadu Mode and Betuwa Dogari all of Bukuyum local government area of Zamfara State who were suspected to be errand boys of a bandits’ kingpin, Kwalle were also arrested along Gaidu village in Illela local government area of Sokoto state.
He said the suspects were said to be sent to Sokoto to receive delivery of 790 Rounds of 7.62MM AK47 Live Ammunition which were promptly recovered on November 28 last year.
Kaigama said the kingpin now at large was said to have been terrorizing Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The Commissioner said that the suspects would be charged to court after their investigation.
