About 30 people were killed as soldiers and gunmen battled in two villages of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Saturday morning.
The clash followed the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the area by Governor Caleb Mutfwang
Mutfwang reduced the curfewfrom 24v hours to 8am to 4 pm as the crisis mellowed down.
Villagers said about 30 gunmen were killed just as some soldiers were injured during the clash at Satguru and Tyop villages.
An anonymous security operative revealed that “The incident occurred between 7 to 7:30 am when the gunmen came in their numbers and started attacking some communities along Gindri road. In no time, the soldiers were alerted and immediately responded.
“About 30 of the gunmen were killed while more than 50 of them had been arrested with guns and ammunition. Four soldiers were equally injured.”
Another anonymous soldier said the people were still in panic.
The spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, a multi-security task force maintaining peace in the area, was being awaited for details as at the time of this report.
