Sokoto state government has resolved to investigate the remarks made by its officer on the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, Sheikh Usmanu bin Fodiyo.
The officer named Abba Shehu Tambuwal who is the Secretary of the Primary Education Board (SUBEB) was said to have demeaned the late Danfodiyo during his speech at a political meeting in his hometown of Tambuwal.
Our reporter learnt that Abba while speaking on the last election which according to him was marred by irregularities in their area, vowed to prevent that from happening during the forthcoming rerun election in the area.
“Let them attempt to do another over voting during the rerun election.
“I swear even if Sheikh Danfodiyo will come here, I will deal with them,” he said.
A statement signed by the Press Secretary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Abubakar Bawa said the State Government would investigate the circumstances that led the officer to make such unfortunate remarks, and take appropriate action to prevent a recurrence.
“The attention of the Sokoto state Government has been drawn to a video clip circulating in the social media in which Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, an officer of the Sokoto state Government, made some unfortunate remarks, demeaning the exalted status of our revered Religious Leader and reformer, Sheikh Usman Dan fodiyo (May Allah be pleased with him).
“The Sokoto State Government wishes to condemn the remark in the strongest terms and diassociate itself from it.
“The Government here by reaffirms it’s belief in the teachings and ideology of the legendary Sheikh Usman Danfodiyo and respect the institution which he represents.
“The Government therefore wishes strongly advise people to avoid making references to such revered personalities, except as examples of best behavior and practice.”
