Four suspects have been arrested by the Bayelsa Police Command over the kidnapping of a Yenagoa- based businesswoman.
According to investigations, the woman was kidnapped Tuesday night by gunmen using the escort vehicle of the Ijaw Youth Council.
Though members of the gang went away with the woman, the driver of the vehicle who was apparently in the dark of what they wanted his car for when he was hired, was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) shortly after the kidnap became public knowledge.
Findings indicated that the driver who has since been handed over to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command had given useful information about the identity of the kidnap gang.
The Police was said to have worked on the information given to arrest three other suspects including the girl friend of the mastermind.
The Bayelsa Police Commissioner, CP Alonyenu Idu who confirmed the arrest of the suspects warned criminal elements to steer clear of Bayelsa State.
Idu speaking on the kidnap incident disclosed that those who carried out the kidnap were part of the suspected criminals chased from the recent raid on the hideout of criminals at Isiokpu area of Rivers State by the Police Command last week.
He stated that the ringleader is from Ebonyi State and has been in Bayelsa with the sole aim to carry out criminal activities.
Idu further confirmed that he is working with the leadership of the IYC in the manhunt for the gang members.
He assured that the approach adopted by the Bayelsa State Police Command to tackle crime and criminality has been widely accepted by the people of the state.
Idu reiterated that the Police would not abdicate its duty in its efforts to ensure that the peace that has been in Bayelsa before, during and after the November governorship elections and the Yuletide season is sustained.
