A mine has exploded killing two civilian JTF commanders and their lieutenants near Ndufu village in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The accident reportedly occurred around 10 am on Thursday.
An anonymous senior CJTF commander said the victims stepped on the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) buried by the roadside on their way to routine patrol in Ndufu.
“The general commander of Gambarou, Bukar Goni, and the commander in charge of Ngala area, Malam Cede were among the six people in the car and they all died,” the source revealed.
It was also learnt that the team left Ngala around 3 pm to patrol the Ndufu area.
“At the entrance of Duhu town, their vehicle (Hilux van) exploded on contact with (IED) and they all died,” he said.
The state Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, was yet to respond to enquiries on the development as at press time.
