Youths in Rivers State on Monday poured on the street to express their rejection of the planned impeachment of the governor of the state, Similanyi Fubara.
The youths march through major roads and streets in the capital of the state chanting, “If Port Harcourt don taya you, go Abuja e. Wike, If Port Harcourt don taya you, go Abuja e” (If you are tired of Port- Harcourt, move to Abuja. Wike go to Abuja).
Members of the state House of Assembly on Monday, launched an impeachment proceeding against Fubara.
But Fubara has denied doing anything wrong to warrant impeachment.
He said, “Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment,” the governor said while addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.
He promised the people of Rivers that he would continue to provide them the dividends of democracy.
Fubara told his supporters at the Assembly Complex, shortly after the House members, led by their Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, began the impeachment process against him.
“Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment,” the governor said while addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.
He also accused security agencies of compromise while addressing some of his supporters on the crisis rocking the state.
He said, “From what I have seen the security agency is even compromised. They were shooting at me directly but it doesn’t matter, somebody will die one day.
“When people here ask who Fubara is? He is that man that was killed for his struggle. I am not against anybody. I’m not planning anything against anybody that I don’t know where these things are coming from.”
