There was concern and fear as villagers in the new Kuyello community in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State raised an alarm after sighting Ansaru militants on motorcycles in the area.
According to the locals, the Ansaru militants, armed and riding on 10 motorcycles, arrived in the community on Saturday.
One of the locals and a youth leader in the area, Babanyara Isah, said the militants rode through the town along Dan Auta street without speaking to anybody.
He said their arrival was a surprise to the people, even though the residents were aware of their presence in neighboring villages and the bush. However, they rarely rode into the town because the people had made it clear that they were not welcome.
“We never gave them a chance to come into our town to avoid luring our youths to join them. But on Saturday, we were caught by surprise as they came on about ten motorcycles, well-armed but later left without saying a word to anybody,” he said.
He further explained that as a community, they had already informed all the necessary authorities and community leaders within the LGA for necessary action to be taken on the issue.
Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), Ishaq Kasai, confirmed the report on the sighting of the militants in the area. According to him, the locals are afraid because they feel uneasy each time they see the militants around their communities.
