The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has in a surprising turn of events, postponed its 293rd Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2023.
The decision to defer the highly anticipated meeting was communicated in a press release by Isa AbdulMumin, Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN, on Thursday.
No reason was, however, given for the postponement.
President Bola Tinubu recently appointed a new governor of CBN and four deputy governors who are yet to be confirmed by the Senate.
While it is unclear if the decision to shift the critical meeting is linked to these new appointments and the fact that the new appointees are yet to resume, it could be one of the factors that necessitated the decision.
