The Jigawa State government and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) have agreed to collaborate on economic reforms in the state.
Spokesperson of the BPE, Amina Othman, revealed this in Abuja on Wednesday, saying the Director-General of the BPE, Alex Okoh, made the pledge when he received Gov.p Umar Namadi at the Jigawa State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Okoh said the bureau would offer technical support, technical know-how and help the government to identify key areas where Public Private Partnership (PPP) could make a tangible impact on the economy of the state.
He said Governor Namadi’s successful emergence as governor reflected the trust and confidence the people of Jigawa placed in his leadership.
The BPE boss also congratulated the state on its 32nd anniversary, andexpressed the bureau’s commitment to foster the development and progress of Jigawa, saying this had been achieved due to good leadership in the past.
He said Jigawa provided many investment opportunities which included agribusiness, solid minerals, renewable energy, light manufacturing, Maigatari Export Process Zone, and Gagarawa Industrial Pack.
Okoh praised the state for ranking top as one of the best places for doing business in Nigeria, in the second edition of the subnational Ease of Doing Business 2023 Report.
Governor Namadi expressed delight with the visit and promised to collaborate with the bureau to bring the needed economic reforms to the state.
Okoh said BPE was an agency of the Federal Government with more than 30 years of experience in sector/enterprise reforms and asset optimisation in the country.
He said that the Federal Government, through a circular in 2020, expanded BPE’s mandate to include acting on its behalf in the administration of concession and PPP in Nigeria.
