The Governorship Election Tribunal on Monday has reaffirmed the election of Dauda Lawal as the Governor of Zamfara state.
In a unanimous judgement, the three members of the panel, led by Justice Cordelia N Ogadi, with Kadi Bello Hassan Abbayo and Justice Aliyu Gegele as members, dismissed the petition of the petitioner Bello Muhammad Mutawalle and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lack of merit.
Mutawalle was the governorship candidate of the APC in the last governorship election held in Zamfara state.
The petitioners alleged that Governor Lawal was not duly elected by the majority of the lawful votes cast and that the election did not comply with the electoral act, dismissed their petition and award N500,000 cost to the first (Lawal) and second (PDP) respondents.
Reacting to the judgement, the lead counsel to the petitioners,
Usman O Sule SAN said they would wait for further directive from their client.
“As you know this is the first step. There are other steps to be taken which will be determined by our clients,” he said.
