Bauchi State Government has said it plans an upward review of the emolument of stakeholders in the traditional institutions including Emirs, District and Village Heads across the state.
The pay rise was in furtherance of efforts to address the challenge of insecurity in the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed, disclosed this when he received members of the State Council of Emirs at Government House Bauchi.
He said the move for the upward review of salary structure and remuneration of members of the traditional institutions was to enhance their royal duties of complementing government’s efforts in addressing security challenges currently resurfacing in some local government areas of the state.
While pointing out that his administration will continue to accord the traditional institution its due regard, he urged the traditional rulers to closely monitor their domains with a view to checking the excesses of undesirable elements that may seek refuge from the onslaught of security operatives from other places.
Mohammed said the review of the salary, despite prevailing economic conditions in the country, was to incentivize them enough to be able to resist offers from criminal elements.
He said the recent removal of some district and village heads who compromised the rule of engagement was to serve as deterrent to others.
Governor Mohammed attributed the success of his administration to the massive support of the traditional institution and the entire people of the state and also pledged that government will continue to partner them in that regard.
He also called for the assistance of Emirs in the distribution of the Federal Government palliative by keeping a close watch to ensure that equity and transparency take preeminence all through the distribution process.
The traditional rulers commended the governor for the infrastructural development and the legacy projects that he is going to bequeath to State.
They acknowledged the respect he accords the traditional institution, saying that it was no surprise as he comes from the same institution, being a son of district head.
The first class emirs were led on the courtesy visit by chairman of the council, Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu.
Represented by his deputy, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk ii, the chairman said that they were in the Government House to personally commend the Governor and encourage him to sustain the tempo in bringing development and prosperity to Bauchi State.
