Bandits have killed five persons and burnt several houses in Goronyo and Tangaza local government areas of Sokoto state.
Four others were also injured, just as they abducted several others and rustled livestock whose number could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
In Tangaza, the bandits were said to have attacked Gandaba Gabas village in Raka ward of Goronyo local government area around 9pm on Monday where they shot five villagers.
It was said that one of the villagers, Mustapha Usman, died on the spot while the remaining four, Falalu Zubairu, Daladi Ango, Tuni Mode and Aminu Nata’ala were currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
A resident of the area, Kabiru Ahmad, who confirmed this to our reporter, said the bandits also burnt down eight houses in the area and kidnapped two married women.
The Goronyo attack took place at Giyawa village around 3am on Thursday.
Confirming the attack, the spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Rufa’i Ahmad said four persons were killed by the marauders.
He said that 18 persons were initially abducted by the assailants who also carted away valuables including livestock.
He said seven of the abducted victims had later escaped and returned to their community.
However, another source said over 30 persons were abducted from the community.
Rufa’i noted that the police were on the trail of the assailants and were making efforts to ensure normalcy was restored in the affected community and environment.
The PPRO however denied knowledge of the Tangaza attack.
