Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have been invited to join the BRICS group of states, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement on Thursday.
The argument over enlarging the BRICS bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has taken center stage at a three-day conference in Johannesburg that concludes on Thursday.
While all BRICS members publicly indicated support for the bloc’s expansion, there were disagreements among the presidents on how much and how quickly.
