The Kano State governorship election petition tribunal has reserved judgment in the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the victory of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, who promised on behalf of the panel to be fair to all parties, however, assured that the judgment would come earlier than the 180 days allowed by the law.
The adjournment came after all parties made their final addresses with the APC urging the tribunal to uphold the petition and return Nasir Gawuna as the winner of the election while INEC, NNPP and Yusuf urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition.
Earlier on Monday, protesters took to the streets in defiance to the ban on protests by the police.
The state commissioner of police, Mohammed Usain Gumel, had issued a ban on protests after members of the ruling NNPP and the opposition APC asked their members to pour on the streets over alleged bribery of the judiciary.
The commissioner said any attempt to disrespect the ban would be treated as an offence against National Security.
But shortly after the order, the protesters converged on the streets and headed for the Government House.
