The National Economic Council (NEC) meeting is currently going on at the presidential villa with the Vice president Kashim Shettima presiding.
This would be the third NEC meeting of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The NEC in July, NEC outlined plans to mitigate the effects of petrol subsidy removal and the unification of the exchange rate, just as it also called on states to implement a cash transfer programme based on their own social registers.
The NEC also called for a six-month monetary incentive programme for public employees.
The council is made up of the 36 state governors, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other government officials.
