The Sokoto State Judicial Commission of Inquiry was not meant to paint anyone black, its chairman, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga has clarified.
Pindiga made the clarification on Friday, saying said the commission would only act based on its terms of reference and give appropriate recommendations in accordance with the law.
“In this regard therefore, any one appearing before the Commission does so as a witness and not as a suspect, accused or defendant.
“Therefore, should any member of the public receive a summon to appear before us, it is nothing to frighten ; it is however, an obligation.
“The Commission has also been vested with the power to direct arrest and detention of willful or neglected failure to respond to its invitation and summonses.
“Similarly, the Commission has been vested with the power to deal with persons who give false evidence before it,” he said
He assured the people of the state that they would not fail them, saying “We will discharge our responsibilities fairly, deligently and with the fair of God,” he reassured.
The commission’ is to examine the sales and auctions of government assets by the immediate past administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
It is to also examine the various allocations of lands throughout the state including; plots of land allocated to individuals and body of persons whether corporate or unincorporated in the Sokoto new city.
The 6-member commission was also expected to ascertain the Government Bank Account and amount realized from the Sales and Auctions of government assets among others.
