Kano State Government has approved the disbursement of over 30,000 Saudi Riyals equivalent to N6.6 million to 50 of its Hajj contingents who lost their Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) while in Saudi Arabia.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued and signed by the acting chairman, Kano State Media Team for 2023 Hajj Malam Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim. According to the statement the announcement was made by the Director General of the state pilgrims welfare Board, Alhaji Laminu Rabiu Danbappa on Tuesday in an interface with journalists at the Holy City of Makka .
The statement stated that, the DG explained that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf out of his magnanimity, gave the approval for the release of the amount in the board’s appropriation in a bid to assisting the victims but not to compensate them, hoping that what happened will serve as atonement, adding that the beneficiaries received half of the money ranging from 750 Saudi Riyals to 500 US Dollars.
It further stated that the major beneficiary was a female from Gwale Local Government Area who lost 1,000 US dollars and received 500 US Dollars.
The statement explained that the DG also shed light on the airlift of pilgrims back home adding that over 3,000 entourage have so far been flown in six flights back to Kano and that the seventh and eighth batches will depart not later than middle of this week.
