Kogi lone PDP legislator yet to be sworn in 44 days after court ruling
Forty-four days after Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja declared him winner to the Kogi State House of Assembly, Daniel Ojata Enefola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ibaji State Constituency, was yet to be sworn in
Justice Ekwo on Friday, January 29, 2021 ordered the removal of Mr Atule Egbunu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and directed that Enefola should replace him as the candidate of the party with the next highest votes in the December 5, 2020 by-election in the constituency.
In response to the court ruling, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) on March 1, 2021 issued a certificate of return to the PDP lawmaker who is yet to be sworn in by the Speaker of the Assembly, Matthew Kolawole.
Enefola made several attempts to get to the Speaker to swear him in to perform his legislative duties but failed, just as the sacked lawmaker from the House, Mr Egbunu has been attending sittings with the other 24 APC lawmakers in the Kogi assembly.
The state PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary, Comrade Mohammed Kabir said the action of the assembly is a total disregard for the rule of law.
