Rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and his accused lover Nandipha Magudumana appeared in court on Tuesday to learn that their case had been postponed until the end of June to allow for additional investigations.
Bester was branded the “Facebook rapist” when he was sentenced to life in prison in 2012.
He escaped from jail last year and left a charred corpse in his cell. Tanzanian authorities apprehended him in April 2023, along with Magudumana, a celebrity doctor and social media influencer who is suspected of assisting him in escaping from prison.
Bester and his associates were apprehended in Tanzania while in possession of many passports.
Four others, including the doctor’s father, were recently arrested in connection with the escape plot.
South African Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi stated at a press conference last week that the department had been unable to trace vital facts of Bester’s identity.
