Sudan’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Abdelmannan, has reaffirmed the country’s resolve to put an end to the terrorist attacks carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Abdelmannan stated this in Abuja at a news conference on the present situation in Sudan organized by the embassy.
The envoy condemned the RSF’s egregious violation of the truce, but stressed that the Sudanese government will take strategic measures to secure the safety and protection of all foreign communities.
According to him, the country will uphold its commitment under international law and the Vienna Conventions to defend all diplomatic missions’ premises and personnel.
“The government of Sudan strongly condemns these terrorist and criminal attacks, and urges the international community, the UN, AU, Arab League, OIC, and human rights organisations to take similar actions.
“By designating the insurgent RSF as a terrorist organisation and holding them accountable before the national and international justice mechanism, for violation of the international and humanitarian law.
“In this regard, we reiterate the firm commitment of Sudan and its competent authorities to take all measures to guarantee safety and protection of all foreign communities and diplomatic representation in Sudan,“he said.
He said the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) was in control and had increasingly rounded the rebelled RSF as outlaw militia.
Regarding the failure of warring sides to comply with the truce and ceasefire, the ambassador stated that while the Sudan government recognized and respected the deal, the RSF never observed it.
He referred to the RSF as paramilitary forces, claiming that they are not professional and do not observe truces, instead looting unsuspecting villagers.
“A responsible and professional army will observe truce for humanitarian opportunities for people to access help.
“Repair and rehabilitation of the damages will be carried out after ceasefire and after the war has stopped, the country, particularly the capital, Khartoum needs to be rehabilitated.
“The civilians there need to be provided with medical assistance, because the RSF evacuated all the patients from the hospitals and took the place as a military place for treating their injuries.”
He said that moves were made to integrate the RSF into the SAF to bring about a unified army, but the plans failed because the RSF refused to support the good cause.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on April 15, conflict broke out across Sudan, mainly in the capital, Khartoum and the Darfur region, between rival factions of the country’s military government.
NAN also reports that on April 15, RSF leader, Mohamed Dagalo and Sudan de facto leader, Abdel Al- Burhan claimed to be in control of key government sites, including the general military headquarters among others.
