Senator Dino Melaye has been unveiled as the Kogi State governorship candidate by the state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party for the November 11 governorship election in the state.
He was unveiled on Wednesday in Lokoja in a ceremony attended by the party’s leaders across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Melaye thanked every member of the PDP for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.
According to him, the state has no business being poor as it sits on a gold mine enough to make the citizens of the state immensely rich.
“Kogi State has over 42 mineral resources untapped. There is nothing wrong if we have five Obajanas in the state. There is no reason why Ajaokuta should not be working. There is no reason why we should depend on monthly Federal Allocation. All these will be brought to a halt when I become the governor through you in November,” he said.
He added, “We have enormous resources and loose funds around the world waiting to be accessed. What you only need is an enabling environment and ideas to access those funds. I will use my connection around the world to attract investment to the state.”
Melaye, a two-term senator who represented Kogi West, was elected on April 15 in a delegates election having polled 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jabiru Usman, who polled 127 votes.
A former governor of the state who attended the event, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris urged party members to support Melaye who he described as a formidable personality who will bring the state out of the woods of the past seven years.
“To do this, there is the need to see ourselves as one big family and work together to install Dino Melaye in November,” Idris said.
