A Kaduna-based businesswoman, Felicia Aaron, has been charged with fraud of N2.4 million before Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel.
Aaron, 34, who resides on Isa Kaita Road, Kaduna, is being accused of criminal breach of trust and fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, said the complainant, Racheal Williams of Ungwan Rimi Kaduna, had petitioned the Commissioner of Police Kaduna State on April 6, over the alleged crime.
Leo recalled that in July 2022, Aaron deceitfully collected wrappers, shoes and handbags from the complainant valuedt N2.4 million to sell and remit after sales.
He said the defendant rather converted the proceeds to his personal use, and failed to remit the proceeds to the complainant.
The prosecutor said during police investigations, the defendant confessed to the crime, adding that the offence contravened Sections 297 and 295 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her counsel, Mr Samson Timothy, applied to court for her bail, assuring the court that a reliable surety would be provided.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in N200, 000, with two reliable sureties, who should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also directed that the sureties must show evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government, and adjourned the case until July 31, for hearing.
