Veteran journalist and former Editor of Daily Times, Peter Enahoro, has died at the age of 88.
Enahoro also known as Peter Pan, died in the United Kingdom, after battling an undisclosed ailment.
Nigeria’s foremost female journalist, Ms. Bunmi Sofola, announced Enahoro’s death in a terse statement on Monday, saying Ehanoro died on Monday, April 24, 2023.
“Regret to announce the passing on of our iconic journalist Peter Enahoro “Peter Pan” today in London at the age of 88. RIP.
Enahoro has been described as ‘perhaps Africa’s best-known international journalist,” Sofola wrote.
Ehanoro was a pioneer of Nigerian journalism and editor of the Daily Times at a young age
The deceased attended Government College, Ughelli (in present-day Delta State), and was a contemporary of the famous poet and Africa’s first professor of English, JP Clark.
He was Contributing Editor of Radio Deutsche Welle in Cologne, Germany, from 1966 to 1976, and was Africa Editor of National Zeitung, in Basel, Switzerland, becoming Editorial Director of New African magazine in London in 1978. He was also publisher of the now rested London-based AFRICA NOW magazine. In the 1990s he was also Managing Director of Daily Times before its privatisation.
