The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday, March, 22 as the first day of Ramadan, 1444 AH.
This followed the sighting of the new crescent in many places across the country.
Announcing this, the monarch noted that, “today Wednesday the 29th Day of Sha’aban 1444 after Hjira of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which is equivalent to 22 March, 2023, marks the end of Sha’aban, 1444 AH, as the reports of moon sighting were received from Muslim Leaders and Organizations across the Country, which were duly verified and authenticated by the States and National Moon Sighting Committees.
“Consequently, tomorrow Thursday, the 23 Day of March, 2023, becomes the First Day of Ramadan, 1444 A.H.
“We therefore call on the Muslim Ummah to commence Fasting accordingly.
“As we just concluded 2023 general elections and leaders emerged at national and states levels by Allah’s will, we therefore call on all Muslims to use the Holy
Month 1or extra prayers tor the successes in steering the affairs of our country.
“As always we appeal to the wealthy individuals to assist the vulnerable and poor people with food during this holy month to cushion the hardship people are going through.
“May Allah (SWT) reward us for our Ibadat with Aljannat Al-Firdaus. Amen. Ramadan Kareem!”
