The All Progressives Congress have won governorship elections in Benue, Ebonyi, Niger, and Cross River states, while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party won in Delta and Plateau states.
In Benue, the state returning officer of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Farouk Kuta, said APC’s Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, won the governorship election by polling a total of 473,933 votes to defeat Mr. Titus Uba of the PDP, who garnered a total of 223,913 votes, while Labour Party’s Herman Hembe scored 41,881 votes.
A breakdown of the result showed that the APC won in 17 local governments of the 23 LGs of the state, PDP took four LGs while LP took one LG.
In Ebonyi, the returning officer, Prof. Charles Igwe, declared Francis Nwifuru of the APC winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Mr Nwifuru scored a total vote of 199,131; he is followed by the candidate of the PDP, Mr. Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, who polled 80,191 votes; while the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof Bernard Odo, came third with a total of 52,189 votes.
In Niger, the state collation officer, Professor Clement Allawa, said APC candidate Umar Mohammed Bago, has won the governorship election by winning in 20 of the 25 local government areas, and polling a total of 469,896 votes.
The PDP candidate, Isah Liman Kantigi, won in five local government areas with 387, 476 votes, while New Nigeria People’s Party’s Yahaya Mohammed came third with a total of 3, 378 votes, and the only female candidate in the election Khadijat Abdulahi of the All Progressive Grand Alliance polled 1, 746 votes.
In Cross River, the returning officer, Prof. Teedy Charles, has declared the APC candidate Bassey Edet Otu as governor-elect, having scored 258,617 votes. His closest contender, Senator Sandy Onor of PDP came second with 179, 636 votes. Out of the 18 local government areas, the APC won in 15 leaving the PDP with three.
In Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori of PDP wown, by polling 360,234 votes ahead of Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC who secured 240,229 votes, while the Labour Party candidate, Ken Pella, came third with 48,047 votes.
According to the results announced by Mr Monday Udoh-Tom, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oborevwori won 21 out of the 25 local government areas collated in the state to defeat his closest rival, the APC’s Ovie Omo-Agege.
Oborevwori polled 360,234 votes, Omo-Agege polled 240,229, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, got 11,029 votes.
In Plateau, the state returning officer, Professor Idris Amali, has declared PDP’s Caleb Mutfwang as the winner of the governorship election with 525,299 votes, to defeat his closest rival and the candidate of the ruling APC, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, who polled 481,370 votes
The result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission after counting the votes scored by parties that participated in the election showed that Mutfwang had the highest votes beating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda.
