The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is currently collating the resuls of governorship and State assembly elections from five states of the federation.
The states include Gombe, Logos, Adamawa, Sokoto and Borno.
The INEC National Commissioner Retired Maj.-Gen. Modibo Alkali, deployed to the State, said the commission ensured an all-inclusive process.
“We have promised to ensure the elections are contested in an atmosphere free of rancor, free, fair, credible and all-inclusive.
“More so, today is another day which is of more concern to all of us. Therefore, I want to assure all that INE C will stand on its promises to ensure only the will of the people prevailed,” he said.
He introduced the Returning Officer for state Gubernatorial election, Prof Armaya’u Hamisu, Hajiya Hauwa Kangiwa, the acting Resident Electoral Commission, Sokoto, who appreciated all stakeholders for the success of the elections.
She assured of INEC’s commitment toward a transparent process and all-inclusive procedures.
The collation of results for the governorship election in Borno has begun in Maiduguri.
The results of the yesterday’s election have been delivered to Collation Centre in Sir Kashim College of Education, Maiduguri.
It is being presided over by the Returning Officer, Prof. Jude Rabo, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Wukari.
So far, results from five -Jere, Dikwa, Mafa, Magumeri and Kaga – out of the 27 LGAs had been presented.
APC now has 106,107 votes, while PDP got 4,871.
Results from 22 LGAs are being awaited.
In Gombe State, the INEC on Sunday began the collation of the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections conducted on Saturday.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, said the occasion was to record results from the 11 LGAs in the state.
Ibrahim said the results had been collated from the polling units through the wards to the LGAs which the collation officers from each of the 11 LGAs in the state were expected to present.
He said in the process of the collation, there would be room for observations to ensure that all stakeholders were carried along.
He, however, appealed that only “reasonable observations” would be entertained.
Prof. Maimuna Waziri, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, who is the state returning officer for the Governorship Elections in Gombe State explained the processes for results collation.
Waziri also showed the electoral materials that would be used to compute the results.
She appealed to all stakeholders to comply with the rules towards ensuring a successful exercise.
Similarly, collation of the elections result which began on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the INEC Media Centre located within the headquarters premises is on going in Lagos State
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Olusegun Agbaje said no fewer than 16 out of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state results had been brought to the state collation centre.
He said the available results would be taken by LGA as they arrived.
According to him, there will be a recess if the results from the remaining four local government areas have not arrived as at the time when the available would have been exhausted.
The Returning Officer for the Governorship Election, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), said the centre must get the collation right.
Oladiji reminded all stakeholders that the correctness of the results brought to the collation centre would be judiciously tested.
He advised all stakeholders to be orderly in their conduct, adding that whoever wants to do manual collation of results as being reeled out should do so to cross-check the results.
In Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, a similar exercise of results collation from yesterday’s electionfrom the 21 Local Government Areas in the state was ongoing.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele, who declared the process open on Sunday, called for orderliness for the success of the exercise.
The collation began at about 12:30 p.m. with results from Guyuk Local Government Area.
Other local government areas whose results had arrived as at the time of filling this report include; Shelleng, Gombi, Jada, Girei, Ganye, Lamurde and Maiha.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Afolabi Babatola; Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCD), Bello Sinusi; Comptroller Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ibrahim Maina were all present at the collation centre
Others were Commandant National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Agboalu Samson and Zonal Controller Federal Fire Service, Modi Andrew. Representatives of EFCC, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and party agents were also presen.
Security operatives were deployed to major roads in the metropolis while Galadima Aminu Way leading to the INEC office was blocked to ensure security during the exercise.
