Austrian authorities have suspended vaccinations with a batch of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, as they investigate the death of one person and the illness of another after the shots.
Reuters reports that a 49-year-old woman died as a result of severe coagulation disorders, while a 35-year-old woman developed a pulmonary embolism and is recovering.
This is coming as top government officials in Nigeria prepare to take their shots of the vaccine on Monday.
President Muahhamdu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had on Saturday took their first shots of the AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, after Nigeria took delivery of 3.9 million doses of the vaccine on Tuesday.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Chairman Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha will on Monday receive doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
The Director Press, Office of the SGF (OSGF), Willie Bassey, said this in a notice on Sunday.
The SGF and the PTF members will receive theirs on Monday after a clearance from the Executive Director National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib.
Bassey said the vaccination will be held at the OSGF during the weekly live joint national briefing of the task force.
