Electricity consumers in Gombe state are indebted to Jos Disco to the tune of N2.2 billion, it’s management has disclosed.
The distribution company said it’s facing challenges such as vandalism, illegal connection and economic sabotage amongst others.
It said the inability of its teeming customers to pay for electricity was a key challenge it face monthly, with huge outstanding bills amounting to N2.2 billion in 2020.
The head of corporate communications, Adakole Elijah noted the company had adopted metering of highly indebted customers to avoid further accumulation of debts.
He said a total of 1,538 households were metered under the Mass Metering Scheme in February.l, adding that though the company had 89,077 customers in the state, it was making strenuous efforts to meter all those yet to be reached.
He noted that the mass metering initiative was strengthened by the National Mass Metering Programme, which had brought great relief for both staff and customers of the company.
