More governors have come out to cast their ballot in today’s presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections.
Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State all voted late in the afternoon.
Uzodimma, after voting commended the INEC for introducing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
The governor, who stormed the polling unit in company of his wife, Mrs Chioma Uzodimma, described the BVAS as “the best for now.”
Gov. Zulum at about 12 p.m. voted at his Ajari polling unit 006 in Mafa town, the headquarters of Mafa Lmocal Government Area of the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the voting process at his unit, describing it hitchfree.
“I just cast my vote here at my polling unit, and based on what I have seen so far, the voting process is going on smoothly.
Gov. El-Rufai who cast his vote at Unguwan Sarki Polling Unit 024 Kaduna, said he has been on the queue for about 45 minuets while his wife had voted.
He also expressed concern over the low turnout of people coming out to vote, especially women.
Oyo State governor Makinde thumbed up the electoral process so far, after he and his wife voted at exactly 10.10 a.m. at unit 1, ward 21, Abayomi-Iwo Road in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area, urged voters to exercise their civic duties responsibly.
“I am very impressed that people have turned out and are patient, because we have issues with the BVAS machine.
Gov. Buni of Yobe also cast his vote at Balturam Yerima Polling Unit in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
He recalled that Buni Gari was once the epicentre of Boko Haram Insurgency, but expressed joy for the improvement of security in the area.
“So far so good; I am highly delighted with the fact that our people are now voting in their ancestral communities unlike in the past when they were IDP’s, voting outside their communities,” the governor said.
Buni also expressed happiness over reports of peaceful and orderly conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections across the state.
Also, the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Hashimi ll El-kenemi, had also cast his vote peacefully at Mairi 005 Polling Unit in Damaturu.
El-Kenemi, who spoke with newsmen thereafter, commended INEC for improvement in the electoral process and called on the commission to maintain the standard.
