The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector contributed 16.22 per cent to the country’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last quarter of 2022.
The ICT sector, according to the NBS, comprises telecommunication and information services, publishing, motion picture, sound recording and music production and broadcasting.
The figure shows an increase from the 15.21 per cent recorded in the same period in the previous year.
The Q4 GDP statistics report showed that quarter on quarter, there was an increase from the 15.35 per cent recorded in the third quarter of 2022.
Year on year, the contribution of the ICT sector grew from 15.51 per cent in 2021 to 16.51 per cent in 2022.
The growth, the report indicated, was driven largely by the telecommunications sub-sector which contributed 13.55 per cent to the GDP in real terms, followed by the broadcasting sector which contributed 1.69 per cent.
