The Nigeria Police is to deploy 310,973 of its personnel to the over 8,000 wards nationwide for the conduct of the February 11 and March 25 elections, Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has said.
Baba revealed this on Thursday at the 66th session of the State House Ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
He said the officers will be drawn from conventional policemen and women, mobile police, special forces, intelligence response team and the counter-terrorism unit, amongst others.
He said there would be additional operatives 93,495 from the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Correctional Service, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as a backup to the police.
Baba said at least 74 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), 37 Water Cannons, 1,240 patrol vehicles, 50 ambulances and 300 motorcycles would be deployed nationwide.
