Zenith Bank branches in major locations across the country were closed to customers on Tuesday as the scarcity of the newly redesigned notes intensified.
Many customers of the bank reported visiting the bank’s branches only to find the gates locked.
A customer who preferred anonymity said he visited five different branches in Abuja but all were shut and it was at the last branch he was advised to visit the Maitama branch.
Customers of the bank have for many days complained about the inability to successfully complete transactions using the bank’s online channels.
A customer on Twitter, @StFreakingKezy wrote: “Zenith Bank Plc Online & Internet banking totally shut down for days now. Yet no public apology from the bank.”
Another Twitter user @Odogwu_Nomso wrote: “Zenith Bank has put their customers in financial jail. ATM card ain’t working. Transfers not going. USSD not working. Bank Apps can’t open. You can’t check your acct balance. This has been going on for a week now, it’s totally unimaginable.
“Now Zenith Bank has started closing down all their branches cos they know people will come to complain, this Political Banking you guys are doing for the election will teach you a Lesson after the Election.”
On Monday, a video appeared online, purported to be staff of Zenith Bank scaling the fence to escape from the bank premises following pressure from customers.
