Olivier Giroud intends to extend his contract with Milan, and he is also not yet prepared to end his international career with France.
The 36-year-contract with the Serie A team expires in June, and since Les Bleus were defeated by Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final, there have been concerns about his future with his country.
Hugo Lloris and Karim Benzema have previously announced their retirement from the national team, but Benzema missed the game in Qatar due to injury.
Giroud, who finished the tournament as France’s all-time leading scorer, has no intention of doing the same.
“I’m still playing for the national team right now. Hugo and I have a unique relationship, therefore I was surprised when he made the decision to depart,” he told Canal Football Club.
“Anything may happen; I haven’t quit competing on the global stage, so I’m still reachable.
“You have to realize that I want to think about it for a while before choosing if I still want to wear the blue shirt, which means a lot to me.”
Given that his contract with Milan ends at the end of the current campaign, Giroud has also been questioned about his club future, but he is eager to stay at San Siro.
With the Scudetto victory, I gained the hearts of the supporters, thus I want to renew with Milan, he continued.
“I’m in communication with the team, and if Milan offers me the chance to cap off my career at a high level, I’ll take it. I could pick a faraway place, but I’ve always preferred MLS.”
Ahead of their match against Lazio on Tuesday, Milan is currently second in Serie A, 12 points behind the league-leading Napoli.
