International flights scheduled to depart Nigeria from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, were on Monday morning grounded as staff of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) workers embarked on strike over salary increment demand.
Travellers whose flights were among those affected, said they were at the airport for their flights as scheduled but the NAHCO staff abandoned their duty posts and left the airport, saying they were on strike.
NAHCO handles check-in, boarding and ramp services for international airlines including Air France/KLM, Qatar, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Turkish Air among others.
It was gathered that the NAHCO management had met with the staff on Sunday over the proposed strike and assured that the situation will be addressed soon, only for the workers to pull a surprise move on Monday morning.
