The Bayelsa State Police Command is investigating the shooting of a mobile Police Corporal identified as Bob at the premises of Globus Bank along the DSP Alamieyeseigha road in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The incident was said to have occurred on December 29 and the assailant, after killing Policeman, escaped with his rifle.
It was gathered that the suspected cop killer was last week introduced to officials of the bank by the deceased as his kinsman and identified as David.
But investigations showed that the deceased policeman is from Nembe community while the suspected killer is from Liama in Brass local government area of the State
Sources close to the Bank told newsmen that the suspected killer had been staying at the premises of the bank where the policeman was detailed.
“The incident happened around noon on Wednesday when they were both about to take lunch. While the Mobile Policeman left his rifle on the bench and was washing the spoons needed for the meal, the killer picked up the rifle and shot him at close range in the back. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre where he was confirmed dead the next day.”
The spokesman of the Command, Mr Asinim Butswat who confirmed the incident said plans are underway to arrest David.
