The campaign team of the Kano Central senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdussalam Abdulkarim (Zahra) was attacked in Gayawa village in Kano State.
Abdulkmarim’s media aide, Ibrahim Mua’azzam, revealed that the convoy was attacked at the weekend when they were returning from a condolence visit, adding that the candidate, fondly called AA Zaura, narrowly escaped unhurt.
Mua’azzam said 17 persons were however, wounded and more than 10 campaign vehicles were vandalised.
“The major casualties are undergoing treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. We also have 17 cars damaged,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of AA Zaura Campaign Organisation, Yahaya Adamu Garin Ali, in a December 17 petition urged the commissioner of police to thoroughly investigate the incident.
Efforts to speak with the police on the development were not successful as the police spokesman in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, did not answer phone calls placed to him by our reporter.
