The Senegalese government decided to host the eighth All Africa Music Awards at a joint world media conference-host country announcement on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Hotel King Fahd Royal Palace in Dakar, Senegal (AFRIMA).
The awards ceremony has been postponed by four weeks and will now take place in Dakar, Senegal, from January 12 to 15, 2023, according to a joint announcement from the African Union Commission, The International Committee of AFRIMA, and The Republic of Senegal. This also implies that the deadline for voting on nominees has been pushed back to January 13, 2023, at 23:00. (CAT).
This year’s primary awards ceremony will be held in a French-speaking nation for the first time, following prior editions.
Iba One from Mali, DJ Neptune from Nigeria, DJ Moh Green from France, Pape, and Dr. Massamba Gaye, Special Adviser to the President of Senegal, were among the 8th AFRIMA nominees and African artists in attendance at the conference. African music stakeholders, AFRIMA delegates, African Union Commission officials, DJ Neptune (Nigeria), Pape Diouf, Jeba, Sidy diop, Adiouza, the Zbest family, Akhlou Brick Paradise, Demba Guisse, Pa Gaye mbaye, Kane diallo, Jamman from Senegal, and French-Algerian DJ Moh Green were among the other attendees.
According to Angela Martins, the head of the African Union Commission’s Social Affairs Division’s Culture Division, the African Union is ecstatic that the awards would be held in a francophone nation (AUC).
“The AUC has been a strong partner and collaborator of them from the inaugural edition of the outstanding awards in 2014,” says the statement. With the goal of promoting and sharing the musical works and unparalleled talent of African musicians from both the young and the ancient generations, AFRIMA has evolved into the only platform on the African continent.
The AU Plan of Action on Cultural and Creative Industries and other policy instruments in the creative sector are articulated and promoted through this well-known forum.
Permit me to join the All Africa Music Awards’ international committee in thanking and appreciating the Senegalese government for agreeing to serve as the event’s host from January 12 to January 15, 2023, making it the third member state of the AU to do so. While still serving as the African Union’s Chair, the Republic of Senegal will host AFRIMA, offering it the perfect opportunity to honor our rich artistic, cultural, and historical heritage.
Senegal is well known for making large investments in its history, arts, and culture. Thus, hosting the AFRIMA conference is a positive step toward reestablishing Dakar as one of the musical capitals of both the continent of Africa and the world.
