Over 1,000 women have defected from the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara state.
The women, led by the former women leader of the state PDP Hajiya Madina Shehu, were received by Governor Muhammad Bello Matawalle at the Government House on Friday.
Among those who defected to the APC were the State PDP youths leader of the women wing, women local Government campaign coordinators of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr Dauda Lawal Dare, some state working committee and state executive council members of the party.
Also, Bungudu local Government campaign Coordinator of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare, Alhaji Ibrahim Leda, and State House of Assembly Aspirant for Gusau ll constituency, Ibrahim Mada have defected to the APC from PDP alongside hundreds of their supporters.
Receiving the decampees, Governor Matawalle applauded the decision of the defectors for joining the APC as the winning party and assured them of his administration’s commitment to carry them along.
Mr Matawalle, who is also the Northwest Zonal Coordinator of the Asiwaju Bola/ Shettima ticket come 2023, said he will continue to consolidate on the gains of what he has done for the people of Zamfara state promising to do more to reciprocate the gesture and the confidence vested on him by the people of the state.
