Zamfara State Governor Muhammad Bello Matawalle has flagged off the distribution of over 10.730 bags of rice, grain and other assorted food items to floods victims and other vulnerable people in the state.
He said the provisions of food items to the vulnerable and those affected by flooding in this year’s rainy season is a positive gesture of relieving the affected persons from their hardships.
Represented by his deputy, Senator Hassan Muhammad at the flag off in Gusau on Friday, Governor Matawalle thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the program.
He also commended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk, for giving the required attention to the state government’s request in that direction.
A statement by the deputy governor’s spokesperson Babangida Garba Zurmi, quoted the governor as saying that his administration would ensure proper and equitable distribution of the commodities to the deserving citizens.
He also directed the Executive Secretary of ZEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmad Gummi, to ensure judicious conduct of the task.
Mr Matawalle urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items given to them and called for total compliance with the laid-down regulations during the distributions.
The event was attended by the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello; Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru; Emir of Kwatar Kwashi, Alhaji Graba Ahmad; and Emir of Maru Banaga, Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari.
