Gunmen suspected to be bandits, Thursday afternoon, attacked Gurumana community in Shiroro local government area of Niger state, killing five locals in their wake.
The attack is coming after a similar invasion of the community on Saturday.
21st Century Chronicle recalls that 19 youths jumped into River Kaduna while fleeing the Saturday invasion.
It was learnt that eight bodies of those that attempted to escape via the river have been recovered by volunteer divers, while 11 are still missing.
Locals said gunmen numbering over hundred rode into the community on motorcycles, shooting sporadically.
The Councilor representing Gurumana ward, Malam Iliyasu Mamman told 21st Century Chronicle on phone that the community has been under constant siege by bandits, while appealing for urgent attention by security agencies.
“We are yet to recover from the Saturday attack, while the remains of some of our brethren have not been found before another attack is happening,” he said.
He said the bandits broke into houses and “ransacked everywhere”.
He said the attackers abducted 15 persons including women and children, adding that “we moved eight injured persons to hospitals in Kuta”.
